G100-MAC Nigeria's Country Denim Partner, Ike Nnaebue Joins Panel at DW's Global Media Forum in Bonn

July 1, 2022

Nigerian filmmaker & Country Denim Partner for Nigeria, Ike Nnaebue joins DW host Karin Helmstaedt in a discussion with creatives from Africa and the African diaspora about the power of culture and the arts to transform societies : despite a booming creative scene on the African continent, creatives are often faced with a lack of critical infrastructure, and a lack of safe spaces due to hostile political regimes. Panel featured Ugandan singer-cum-politician Bobi Wine, Cameroonian-born photo artist Angèle Etoundi Essamba, South Sudanese writer Stella Gaitano, and British-Nigerian photographer Akinbode Akinbiyi as they talk about the dilemmas and solutions culture can provide. What role can artists play as a force for social change? And how to empower Africa’s young generations to dream in their own countries?

In a quick statement from Ike Nnaebue, he said...

We are now focusing on telling stories of everyday heroes...narratives that underscore the magic of the people, women and men alike. Magic of The People is an anthology series we are currently working on as part of the strategy to reconnect our people with the greatnesses of our ancestry.
